چکیده

C fluid (CSF) examination is performed in the emergency department (ED) to obtain information relevant to the diagnosis and treatment of specific disease entities. Many urgent and life-threatening conditions require immediate and accurate knowledge of the nature of the CSF. However, on rare occasions, certain harmful consequences may result from a spinal puncture. Perform a careful neurologic examination before the procedure, and give special thought to the risks and merits of the procedure in each situation.

Ultrasonographic examination of the spinal cord and collection of cerebrospinal fluid from the atlanto-occipital space in cattle

Ultrasonography is useful for the visualization of the spinal cord and associated structures and facilitates the safe collection of cerebrospinal fluid from the atlanto-occipital space in cattle. This technique is less stressful than the blind puncture technique because it does not require strong ventroflexion of the head. Furthermore, painful puncture of the spinal cord can largely be avoided ...

Cerebrospinal fluid findings after treatment of early syphilis with penicillin.

It has been the practice at the Central VD Clinic, Colombo, to examine the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) as a test of cure not less than 2 years after treatment for early syphilis. A total of 151 CSF examinations were performed between September, 1963, and August, 1964, in male patients who had been treated for primary or secondary syphilis. The examination was made within 1 hour of lumbar puncture...

Cerebrospinal fluid leakage and headache after lumbar puncture: a prospective non-invasive imaging study.

The spatial distribution and clinical correlation of cerebrospinal fluid leakage after lumbar puncture have not been determined. Adult in-patients receiving diagnostic lumbar punctures were recruited prospectively. Whole-spine heavily T2-weighted magnetic resonance myelography was carried out to characterize post-lumbar puncture spinal cerebrospinal fluid leakages. Maximum rostral migration was...

Nonefficacy of routine removal of CSF during neurodiagnostic procedures.

The charts of 750 patients were reviewed to determine the value of routinely removing cerebrospinal fluid at the time of myelography and cisternography for chemical and cytologic examination. In most patients cerebrospinal fluid findings were normal. In the few abnormal studies, the findings were often uninformative, superfluous, or insufficient for appropriate diagnosis. In no instance did rou...
